Fresh off a deal with the City of Chicago that will allow Wal-Mart Stores to open more than a dozen locations there, the mega-retailer is closing in on an agreement to open its first store in D.C.
Walgreen Co. will be conducting a test of chilled foods at up to 12 stores this fall in a bid to become a bigger player in the growing fresh food sector. Walgreen spokeswoman Tiffani Washington confirmed the test and said the fresh food initiative could help the drugstore chain be eventually seen as "destination for tonight's meal."

Pet products retailer Pets at Home has reported a 36% increase in annual profit, driven by new store openings and an 8.8% rise in like-for-like sales.
